No regrets, but looking back fondly at an adventure. The Colonel wrote this one right in the middle of a devastating Australian drought, hoping it would surf to prominence on a wave of no water. Pretty much as soon as we started performing it, the heavens opened and the water situation became much less severe, rendering the song's topical relevance obsolete. The Colonel believes the timing is no coincidence and now credits himself with ending the drought.
Lyrics:
Another year gone And you're still in hiding My only reminder's a hole in the door And this dinner for one So quiet alone Without all the fighting You'd think I'd be happy accepting surrender And lying alone in the warmth of the sun
But I miss the rain running down your street And I miss the taste of tears on your cheek There's not a cloud in the sky But this Earth's getting dry And the sun's shining straight in my eye I miss the rain in my life.
The party's at yours now Seems I'm not invited And now all the memories of long crowded showers Need washing away
So I'm sitting alone Avoiding the coffee Trying to silence the feelings inside me that told me To call you and beg you to stay
Still I dream of the day When you fall back in my arms Of mornings alone Without phone cals or alarms I've said my goodbyes But you're always in my heart just the same And I miss the rain
