Want to get all choked up? Watch "Standing in the Shadows of Motown," about the incredible Funk Brothers band that played on virtually all the great Motown tunes you know, but went about their jobs quietly and with virtually no recognition for their amazing contribution to the world of music. The Motown sound is a clear influence in this tune and we're sure the Funk Brothers would know just how to groove it. This is our tribute to the quiet, the loyal and the true - in the hope that one day they'll reap the rewards they deserve.
Lyrics:
He was the first to arrive, and the last to leave
Now I know that you're feelin' lonely In the middle of a group of friends And I know that you dream of someone To stick by you to the end
Now you're searching high and low In the bars and the hotels too But did you ever think of looking Right in front of you?
He was the first to arrive, and the last to leave And he ain't sayin' nothing, he keep it up his sleeve I know he may be shy, but if attitude is anything to go by He was the first to arrive, and the last to leave
Who was the one Who reassured you when you were down? Never said a word, But made an effort just to be around?
He was the first to arrive, and the last to leave And he ain't sayin' nothing, he keep it up his sleeve I know he may be shy, but if attitude is anything to go by He was the first to arrive, and the last to leave
You want a proud an honest man A fella who can stand by you Well I don't know how you get so blind But let me give a damn fool a clue
He was the first to arrive, and the last to leave And he ain't sayin' nothing, he keep it up his sleeve I know he ain't got style, but he'll do anything to make you smile He was the first to arrive, and the last to leave
I know he may be shy, but if attitude is anything to go by He was the first to arrive, and the last to leave
