| Suade: Australian a cappella champions at SingFest 2010 |
Loz: prize on the eyes. So right at the end of April the lads took a trip up to the Gold Coast to do a bit of a workshop at Lindisfarne Secondary school and to compete at the first annual SingFest national a cappella competition. In the small groups division alone, there were no less than 28 groups - many of which were sub-groups of the enormous and very impressive Blenders barbershop chorus. But at the end of the day, it was Melbourne groups in first, second and third place... Our buddies in Blue Notion took out third in a flurry of close harmony, and Ginger and Tonic took second in dangerously sexy style - their first public show after forming to have a crack at Australia's Got Talent. We had to fly out before the results were announced... So when the Blue Notion guys rang us to tell us we'd won first place, there was all sorts of leaping and shouting and hugging at Melbourne Airport. Such a pity we couldn't stick around for the big ol' singalong session afterwards! Apart from competing, we also took the chance to deliver a couple of workshops while we were there, and sang as much as we could in the open-air 'Chorditorium' - which gave us the chance to meet a whole bunch of other singers from QLD, northern NSW and around the country. Congrats to Brett Logan and the Blenders for putting on a sensational festival, and to all the other groups we saw for putting together a very high quality showcase of vocal music! |
