February 2010
Happy new year, lads and lasses! Hope you had a ball-tearing holiday season. We sure did!
If 2009 was the biggest year in Suade history, 2010 is set to be even bigger. We're just about to pull the trigger and start recording some new tunes, we're negotiating a record distribution and promotion contract in Korea, we're planning to travel to Singapore, Korea and China (and possibly some other countries) later this year, and we're writing, rehearsing, planning and arranging furiously to keep our material fresh. 2010 is GAME TIME baby!
4 of us have gone part-time or casual with work in order to spend more time on the business of pushing the band further, so I believe technically we're now a semi-professional a cappella group - except Roy, who is completely unprofessional. Yay!
Anyway, here's a few links you can check out to see what's been going on and what's coming up in the next little while:
Vocal Australia and the Get Vocal Melbourne festival
This is big news. The Colonel has teamed up with Mealz Alder of the Vocal Folds 4 to create Vocal Australia, an association dedicated to developing and promoting the contemporary a cappella scene in Australia.
The first big event they're organising is a festival - Get Vocal Melbourne - and Suade and a number of other great local groups are signed on for performances, workshops, masterclasses and social events.
If you dig vocal music and wanna get involved with a local scene that's just about to take off - whether it's as a singer, a fan or you want to start a new group - then you owe it to yourself to check this one out!
It's at Chapel off Chapel from the 5th to the 9th May, 2010.
New Video: Advance Australia Fair
As if Australia wasn't advanced fairly enough yet, here's me and the lads with a very special, bogan-eriffic version of the Australian National Anthem.
Incidentally, if you know anyone in the TV or major events game that might need an anthem sung, we can do the same tune dressed up much nicer, so let 'em know!
Feb 27 with the Mebourne Welsh Male Choir
Ah, Wales. Where Tom Jones and his mighty chest hair reign supreme. Where "Llanfairpwllgwyngyll" is the ABBREVIATED form of a place name and the sheep famously run scared. Where a choir means upwards of a hundred brawny men, with a cavernous sound honed through the centuries to stir the very depths of your soul and raise the hairs on the back of your neck.
The Blain lads have a bit of Welsh in 'em, so we're proud to be adding our puny voices to the Melbourne Welsh Male Choir for a couple of feature sets at their St. David's Day show on Feb 27 in Ringwood. We fully expect to be the least manly men in the room, but then even the Welsh lads aren't as manly as our new heroes from Adelaide, so we'll just have to deal with it.
Click through here for full details - hope to see you there!
Blain Kids run riot in Kitchen
As you may know, Loz and Chris have been "celebrity" "chefs" recently on Tricia Ziemer's Kids in the Kitchen TV show on Melbourne's Channel 31. One of the episodes is currently playing on the C31 website, have a look if you want to see how to make minty choc balls.
Well, I reckon I've loaded you up with enough links and videos and whatnot to last about a month... Keep an eye on the suade.net website, our Facebook page and our all-new YouTube channel for lots more videos and information.
Til we meet again...
Love, Loz ...and the Suade lads.
